The Last Collection

There was much speculation as to what would happen to McQueen's final collection, as many of the garments were incomplete at the time of his passing.  His collections were his visions, his emotions, and his perceptions, and the A/W 2010 collection was conceived to suffer without his creative mind.
But the 16 outfits shown were beautifully crafted, sad reminders of what he achieved in his life time.  The medeival theme was combined with a flourish of details referencing his previous collections, such as incorporations of feathers in coxcombs and a golden jacket. I have selected six the looks, each encapsulating a quality of McQueen which we can now only admire and grieve for. May he rest in peace x

UNION @ FABRIC 10/02/10

I played the role of "photographer" last night, so apologies if you were a little bewildered by getting your photo taken by a stranger! What a crazy night though, Zane Lowe was on good form!
This blonde sweetheart won my style vote of the night, because she is so effortlessly striking in the casual outfit of skinnys and hot kicks! There is something a little Debbie Harry about her cheekbones and I love her cropped hair and angel wing earrings. Gorgeous!

And here are the rest of you crazy lot!

Fashion Moment

Statement Fur

Jean Paul Gaultier loves the concept of taking distasteful ideas and turning them into high fashion.  His collections blurred the lines between feminine and masculine fashions in the 1980s, and have consistently referenced sex and power.  It’s not hard to see why – that in the controversy surrounding it- Gaultier loves animal fur in fashion.

Fur is fascinating to man, and the value of animal skins is embedded in our cultural history.  There is nothing more beautiful than nature’s design, and animal skins became a status symbol of power and wealth as royalty embraced its aesthetic qualities.  Mink, fox and exotic cat were particularly favoured amongst kings and emperors for their exclusiveness, as it was a powerful, intimidating way of dressing that poorer classes couldn’t afford.  It was embraced by the fashion world at the turn of the century, and epitomised glamour and wealth.

Whether you love it or hate it, Gaultier in particular promoted the use of fur in fashion in the 1970’s, and since then animal fur’s relationship with fashion has failed to be diminished.  Even after the extreme revolt against the use of furs in fashion in the 1980’s, fur slowly crept its way back on to the catwalks.

There is something powerfully seductive about the luxury of fur.  It remains a product to which only the wealthy can indulge in, a fashion statement that epitomises iconic glamour.  To throw on a fur coat is to be blatantly extravagant, and demands a fierce and haughty attitude managed with total sophistication.  If in indulged in, it should be a guilty pleasure.

LOVE OneThousandandOne

So yesterday evening, I ventured out into Shoreditch with the girls in search of shenanigans, and discovered “showcase” at CafĂ© 1001 on Brick Lane. An exhibition designed to give emerging artists the chance to present their work, it takes place every two weeks on a Wednesday from 5.30pm.

My pick of the night was the work of a photographer named Alexander Rioz, who asked me what I thought of his photos as I wapped my camera out. His work compromised photographs of an eclectic mix of subjects from Colombia, printed on postcards, and little paper planes, and books with absurd comical facts.

The whole idea was quirky, and we were so tempted to purchase a postcard as a keepsake! But we are poor students, so unfortunately we had to leave postcardless and in a hurry to catch the last train! My legs still hurt after the sprint up the three escalators from the Jubilee to Waterloo station, sort that out please London Transport Office!
